As an abstract expressionist -impressionist painter, color takes precedence. When I could not resolve an area, I saw the solution peripherally, rather than pushing at it. The space in the painting always opens back up again when I allow ideas to come on their own. I wait for them, even if it means standing still for long periods of time looking at the painting that does not yet have life in it. In this case, I continued studying the landscape changing daily; only when new color relationships become new ideas, do I search for them on canvas.
